Norwood, Massachusetts – August 29, 2012 – Digiscribe New England today announces that Susan Matthews, Director of Operations, has returned from her fifth successful trip providing aid to the children of Juticalpa, Honduras through the Olancho Aid Foundation.

Susan volunteers directly with the Hands to Honduras team based out of Holy Family Church in Rockland, MA. The Olancho Aid Foundation empowers Honduran youth in Juticalpa to transform themselves, their communities and their country through education. From special needs to bilingual classrooms, Hands to Honduras volunteers are dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing an environment that stimulates intellectual and spiritual growth and fosters independent thinking. Juticalpa is the capital of the largest state in Honduras, which is the second largest country in Central America and the poorest.

Today, the Olancho Aid Foundation consists of several programs:

  • Nazareth: a special needs school
  • Santa Clara: a bilingual elementary school
  • Santa Clara Institute: a bilingual middle school
  • Cardinal Rodrigues Institute: a middle-high school
  • Cardinal Rodrigues University

“I love Nazareth – the students are wonderful – happy and always anxious to see us. We have made great friends with both students and teachers in the schools and others in the neighborhoods. Each trip is like going to an annual family reunion. This past year, we decided to use some of the money that had been donated to bring food to some families. We’ve now created a “rice and beans project”. Everyone is so very grateful.

Deeply embedded in these programs is the idea that every person can make a difference when reaching out and helping each other, regardless of nationality, economic status, education level or personal resources,” states Susan Matthews.
